Bringing a child to Lourdes
Being a child in Lourdes
The children that we bring to Lourdes with The Glanfield Group tend to be sick, disabled, or deprived in some way. We have seen time and time again that in Lourdes children can have a life-transforming experience. Rarely do we witness any kind of astonishing 'miracle', but we see children have great fun, grow in confidence, and develop lasting friendships with other children and helpers. Children seem to really respond to the story of Lourdes, perhaps because Saint Bernadette was only a girl of 14 when the Virgin Mary appeared to her.
Being a parent/carer in Lourdes
Some parents and carers take the opportunity of The Glanfield Group pilgrimage to take a well-earned rest and stay at home or go on a week's holiday safe in the knowledge that their child is being cared for. Other parents and families - particularly those of terminally ill children - like to come with the Group to share in the unique Lourdes experience. For parents, carers and families there is a lot of integration within the Group, offering parents the opportunity to meet others in similar situations to themselves, offering invaluable mutual support. In some cases this support has continued outside of Lourdes.
